Follow these steps to mince a clove of garlic. Always make sure your knife is nice and sharp (recommendation for a solid knife sharpener here) so it doesn't slip and you accidentally cut yourself. I dislike garlic presses; it just seems like one more thing to wash and I enjoy using my knife-but, to each their own.
What You'll Need:
Step 1
Set a garlic clove on your cutting board and lay your chef's knife flat over your garlic clove.
Step 2
Use your hand to swiftly smash down on your knife.
Step 3
Now you should be able to easily remove the skin from the garlic; discard the papery skin.
Step 4
From here, I like to start by using my knife to slice my clove into thin slices. Always keep the fingers of your non-cutting hand curled inward, so you don't lose a fingertip.
Step 5
Last, I will gather up all my little slices into a pile and chop, chop, chop. I will repeat this sequence several times (gather, chop, chop, chop) until my garlic is minced.
